Granite

Granite is a popular stone choice at our Denver showroom. That’s because its durability makes it ideal for numerous applications, and it offers an outstanding variety of colors and patterns.

There are a variety of reasons granite has remained one of the most popular stone countertop materials year after year. Granite is hard, doesn’t absorb liquids readily, is chemically resistant, isn’t vulnerable to sun and water, and can tolerate very high temperatures. Its hardness keeps granite from scratching and wearing down. Because granite doesn’t absorb liquids, it also resists staining and odors. Not absorbing liquids also helps make granite stable for exterior applications, and its high temperature resistance means you won’t easily damage your kitchen countertop with hot pans.

Common applications for granite include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Countertops
  • Exterior applications
  • Fireplace hearth
  • Flooring
  • Tables

The experts at our showroom can help you understand whether granite is right for your application.

Quartz

Quartz as a natural mineral is essentially glass, but countertop quartz is an engineered product made with ground quartz, resin, and pigments. It’s designed to be highly durable and resists heat, scratches, and stains. Because it’s engineered, you can count on a consistent appearance that you specify.

Common applications for engineered quartz include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Countertops
  • Decorative
  • Fireplace hearth
  • Flooring
  • Tables
  • Wall cladding

Note that not all quartz materials are stable under UV light. This can make them unsuitable for exterior applications and may even be problematic for interiors that get extensive natural sunlight. Your stone expert can direct you to UV-stable options if this will be an issue for your project.

Marble

Marble is a stone that’s traditionally valued for its beautiful appearance. Typically pale in color, it’s shot through with natural veining that can have very dramatic colors.

Most people don’t realize that marble is a relatively soft stone that’s vulnerable to acidic attack. Even a mild acid like tomato juice can damage marble. In applications where this might be problematic, surface treatments can help protect the stone.

Common applications for marble include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Decorative
  • Fireplace hearth
  • Flooring
  • Tables
  • Wall cladding

Our stone showroom experts can help you understand whether marble will work in your application.

Quartzite

Quartzite is a natural stone whose visual presentation can be similar to marble, but its chemical makeup is much stronger. This makes it a better choice for applications that are too demanding for marble.

Quartzite is similar to granite in terms of abrasion, heat resistance, and chemical resistance. It doesn’t scratch easily, and hot pans won’t damage it. It also won’t etch when exposed to acids, but it can be more porous than granite. A sealant can help make quartzite ideal for your countertops and other applications.

Common applications for quartzite include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Countertops
  • Fireplace hearth
  • Flooring
  • Tables

Talk to a showroom expert about your application, and they will help you decide if quartzite is the right choice for you.

Onyx

Onyx is a calcite-based stone that produces intricate patterns including cloud-like shapes, bold veining, regular patterns like rings or waves, and more. The beauty and variety of onyx really must be seen to be believed.

Onyx is translucent, which makes it a great choice for backlighting to show off its intricate patterns. However, onyx is also soft and vulnerable to chemical attack. If you want to use it in applications where it will be exposed to knives or acid, make sure it is suitably treated.

Common applications for onyx include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Decorative
  • Tables
  • Wall cladding

We’ll listen to your plans for an application to determine whether onyx is really a good choice, then we’ll work with you to find the perfect pattern for your design.

Travertine

Travertine is a variety of limestone that was formed in pools by accumulations from hot, mineral-rich spring water. As it formed, bubbles of carbon dioxide got trapped within it, giving it a unique texture. It’s chemically similar to marble and recommended for similar applications. For working surfaces, a sealant treatment can help protect the stone from chemical attack and infiltration of liquids.

Common applications for travertine include:

  • Bathroom or bathroom vanity
  • Decorative
  • Exterior applications
  • Wall cladding

When you talk to a stone showroom expert, they’ll help you understand if travertine is a good choice for your application. They can also recommend an appropriate surface treatment if necessary.

Sandstone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock formed when grains of sand accumulate and are bound together with other minerals. Although the sand grains are highly durable—they’re made of natural quartz—the performance of sandstone can vary widely depending on the matrix that binds them.

Common applications for sandstone include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Decorative
  • Exterior applications
  • Fireplace hearth

Some sandstones might also be good for countertops or other applications. If you have your heart set on sandstone, our showroom experts can direct you to a suitable variety for you.

Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed primarily of calcite. The process can vary considerably, leading to many varieties of color and texture. Some limestone deposits include intricate fossils for a unique appearance.

Because of its chemical vulnerabilities, it’s not typically used as a kitchen countertop. However, it has many other common applications, including:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Decorative
  • Fireplace hearth
  • Flooring

When you visit our Denver showroom, our experts can guide you through the different varieties of limestone that might be suitable for your project.

Semi-Precious Stone

Semi-precious stone is how we categorize our engineered products that combine crystals and gems in a slab form to create a beautiful and versatile surface useful for a wide range of applications. These slabs can include a combination of gems such as petrified wood, tiger eye, amethyst, jasper, and even touches of 14-karat gold.

Common applications for this type of material include:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Countertops
  • Decorative
  • Flooring
  • Tables
  • Wall cladding

Because they’re an engineered product, you can get almost any combination of appearance and properties you desire. We offer over 20 different color options with numerous textures and finishes to help you find just the perfect one for your project.

Soapstone

Soapstone is an attractive natural stone that is highly resistant to chemical attack and heat. You won’t damage it with spills of common kitchen acids, such as lemon juice or vinegar. You can also place a hot pan on it. The talc in the stone gives it a silky, luxurious texture, but it also makes it very soft and vulnerable to scratches and wear. Mineral oil treatment helps mask scratches, but it’s important to be aware of its vulnerability.

Soapstone is commonly used for:

  • Bathroom or vanity
  • Countertops
  • Fireplace hearth

When you visit our showroom, you get an opportunity to touch this sensuous stone, and our showroom experts can help you understand if it’s a good choice for your project.
