What is the difference between quartz and quartzite?

December 31, 2020

Quartz is an engineered, manufactured, man-made product. This is achieved by using a combination of natural quartz, resin, and pigment. Quartz is often confused with quartzite, which is a 100% natural stone that is quarried deep within the Earth. A Quartz slab doesn’t come from a stone quarry; it is created and manufactured in a factory using the elements listed above. Both are highly durable, beautiful premium hard surface options for any project. Quartz and quartzite are both available in many design styles and looks, often mimicking the look of traditional marble.

Because quartz is an engineered product, it can provide a consistent, predictable aesthetic, while a quartzite can have great variability and uniqueness due to the fact it is an all-natural product from the Earth. Both quartz and quartzite are used in both residential and commercial applications.

Our stone experts are happy to answer any additional questions when weighing the options between installing quartz or quartzite.
